Religion May is the month we honor Mary! We have been learning about Mary, the Mother of God. We went to mass on Thursday for Ascension Thursday. We learned that forty days after Easter, Jesus rose up into heaven on the Mount of Olives.
Math We have completed our math books! We have been reviewing the math skills and concepts that we learned this year in kindergarten. We will continue to review until June.
Reading We started Unit 10: I Know A Lot! We will be reviewing the comprehension skills we have been working on in kindergarten. This week we reviewed how using illustrations can help us to better understand what is happening in a story. We focused on the letters Jj and Qq. We learned that Q has a best friend named U and together they make a special sound. We blended words with these sounds whil reading together this week. Our new words are with and my. Continue practicing sight words...all should be mastered by June! Please be sure your child is working in the yellow practice book on Unit 10. Thanks!
Printing We are all working on printing short seasonal poems in printing group with Mrs. Howe.
Science Our "scientist" this week is Lauren. Lauren's experiment was called "Kissing Fish". Lauren made two little "fish" out of magnets and she got them to kiss! We had so much fun with these magnets and learned some more about how magnets work!!! Great job, Lauren!
Also, for science, we are learning all about butterflies. We are learning about the life cycle of the butterfly and the parts of the butterfly. In the classroom, we have been watching our own caterpillars grow and change. They are now in the chrysalis stage! We should have beautiful butterflies very soon! Summer Birthdays It is that time of the year for us to celebrate summer birthdays! If your child has a birthday in the summer and would like to bring in a treat to celebrate at school, please let me know.
